Undergraduate Portfolio Assessment

The Department of Architecture requires all design studio students enrolled in its programs to submit a work portfolio at the end of each semester. The portfolio showcases the students' design and drawing abilities and their ability to think critically and comprehensively. Faculty at each studio level review the portfolios for evidence of learning objectives and outcomes as part of its assessment process. The portfolios also help the faculty identify education gaps and address them through lesson planning, workshops, and reviews in the subsequent term. The faculty also work with the students through a critique of their portfolio to ensure that it meets the Department of Architecture's standard of Design Excellence. Up to six of the best portfolios, one from each year level, receive recognition from the Department each spring.
