Undergraduate Admissions

All students in the undergraduate program must first be admitted to Texas A&M University. The College of Architecture is enrollment managed and acceptance into Texas A&M University does not guarantee acceptance into the College and Department of Architecture. To learn more about the application process and apply to Texas A&M University, go to the Texas A&M University admissions website.

Freshman

Degree seeking applicants without college credit or whose only college credit was received prior to high school graduation should apply as a freshman. It is recommended to apply early and indicate Environmental Design as the first choice for major.

Transfer

Students interested in transferring from another institution must first meet University entrance requirements.  To be considered for acceptance into the Environmental Design program, the following criteria must also be met. Applicants with less than a 3.0 GPA are rarely admitted.

  • At least 24hrs of coursework completed at time of application, including
    • ENGL 104
    • PHYS 201
    • At least one of the following: MATH141(152 acceptable) or MATH142(151 acceptable)
  • It is recommended that students transfer with less than 36hrs of coursework

Transfer students accepted into the Bachelor of Environmental Design degree program must submit a portfolio to the Department of Architecture to receive credit for drawing and design studio classes taken at another university or college, unless the course is listed as an equivalent under the Texas common course numbering system. The review of the portfolio will ensure appropriate studio placement.

University Core Curriculum requirements can be found in the latest Undergraduate Catalog under General Information. Transfer students should apply for summer admission to be eligible for the summer module, described below.

Change of Major

Students currently enrolled in another major at Texas A&M University with fewer than 60hrs who desire to change their major field of study to Environmental Design must fill out a College of Architecture Change of Major application available from our online forms page . Students should follow the entrance criteria as listed above in the Transfer Student section as well as those listed on the application.

Applications are accepted twice a year: March 1 for summer module admittance and June 15 for fall admittance.

Summer Module

The department offers a 10-week summer module which is designed to provide an intensive first-year undergraduate design studio sequence along with support coursework that will enable transfer and change of major students to qualify for sophomore design studios the following semester. This module allows students to graduate in a timelier manner since the studio courses are sequential and designed as a four-year program. Transfer students should note summer admission to be eligible for the summer module.
